桐材

昔からよくタンスに使われている『桐』

桐は実は樹木の仲間ではなく、「ゴマノハグサ」科ノーゼンカヅラ属に属する草の仲間です。

ストローのように幹の中心部分に穴が開いており、それで地中の水分を吸収します。

特徴として

・日本国内では一番軽い材料。

・通常の使用状態で材の中まで水分が浸透することはありません。

従って、汚れも中までは染みないという事になります。

・断熱・保温性に優れています。

・熱伝導率が樹木の中でも最低。

・多少のキズや凹みでも復元する力がある。

・強度はない

・火に強い

このような特徴から古くからタンスとして使用され、

最近では収納の内装材そのものとしてや、手触り、足ざわりの良さから床材にも

使用されるようになりました。

温故知新、いいものは取り入れやっていきたいです。
